I've thought about it long and hard
for so many years, I've spent countless hours
trying to put my finger on exactly
what it is about you that puts me off.
I've tried so hard to make amends with who we are
and who we will be, who we were
why we were
I just can't make it stop.

I just can't make it stop....

They say time wounds all heels
and it tears the tarmac out from under
your blistered feet, a tragedy
that I wasn't there to see it.
They say that life's a game to be played
and the glory seekers count the cost
at the end of days, but when I look at you
I just can't believe it.

I just can't believe it....

because your eyes give me The Fear.
Your eyes give me The Fear.

I've thought about us, young and old
from shattered sapling to burning oak
the inevitable twist of the knife,
post flick-of-the-wrist.
I've thought about us, now and then
piss-artists to a T, us and them
gouging out the compassion,
refusing to stop.
I just can't desist.

I just can't desist....

They spat the words from on-high to here
with little thought of hate or fear
unless the intentions were to subjugate
in which case they succeeded.
They bucked the gears and split the seams
with a crumpled pre-war limousine
half an ounce of sugar thrown in the face
of those who didn’t need it.
I just can't believe it.

I just can't believe it....

because your eyes give me The Fear.
Your eyes give me The Fear.
because your eyes give me The Fear.
Your eyes give me The Fear.

He said that you'd be coming back,
I said you wouldn't stand a chance,
we both laughed when you woke up dead:
The look in your eyes was priceless.
Until it received a second glance,
then a malign glint made him change stance
I cried blood and only then did I stop to wonder:
"Why are we like this?"

Now there isn't any easy way to say
that ever since that fateful day,
over my shoulder is the only way
I'll look 'til news of your death reaches me.
The piercing stare forever haunts,
and who I am forever taunts,
Trapped by dreams of what I can't possibly
ever be.
Well, who'd have thought it wouldn't pay to be me...

Well, who'd have thought it wouldn't pay to be me...

I am trapped until I face you one last time,
That’s what I dread the most,
I dread the day I'll have to look upon the host:

because your eyes give me The Fear.
Your eyes give me The Fear.
because your eyes give me The Fear.
Your eyes give me The Fear.
because your eyes give me The Fear.
Your eyes give me The Fear.
because your eyes give me The Fear.
Your eyes give me The Fear.

I can't sleep!

Were they friends that fell out or twins that grew to hate each other? Or is it one person who doesn't realise that he is mad and it is his own eyes he fears, in the mirror..?

I really like this! ^_^
I don't know, I have a thing about eyes at the moment. I'ma going to assume it's a real guy and an imaginary friend.... because I can :p .

On a plus side, it's the first song I've written in ages that hasn't been about Railguns!
